There’s no doubt about it. The June Demonstration is going to be BIG – but how do we make it bigger?
We’re calling for volunteers, supporters, individuals and groups to join us at our London-wide mobilising meeting on the 11th June, 6pm, at the NUT, Hamilton House, Mabledon Place, London WC1H 9BD! This gives us just 10 days to pull every trick out of the bag before the big event.
We’re going to need social media storms, fundraisers, banners painted, placards made, and some serious publicity to make sure we have the greatest impact possible. Passionate about the cause? Got skills or a bit of time to lend a hand? Then we need you!
Join us on 11th June @ 6pm. Please share and invite your friends to the event, and we’ll see you there: https://www.facebook.com/events/1640231022930170/

Room K111 at King’s Manor, University of York, Exhibition Square

York is a treasure trove of medieval stained glass. Glass is a wonderful thing to write about: it can twist, bend and split light. It can discover vision and mark our separation from the outside world. In this workshop we’ll take inspiration from the history and process of glass making in York to discover the way poems can shift from being transparent, to coloured and even opaque and secretive. Suitable for aged 18 years upwards.
York Curiouser has commissioned John Wedgwood Clarke to write a new poem inspired by York’s medieval stained glass which will be stencilled on a hidden passage in York as part of the re-installation of the York Curiouser 2014 series of poems ‘In Between’. This workshop will enhance your understanding of this site-specific series of poems and forms part of York Curiouser’s research during 2015.
John Wedgwood Clarke is a lecturer in creative writing at the University of Hull. He regularly works with curators, scientists and artists on public art projects. His first full collection Ghost Pot (2013) was described as ‘a masterpiece that rewards continual rereading’ by Bernard O’Donoghue and has been selected by New Writing North for Read Regional 2015. Recent poems have appeared in PN Review, Poetry Review, POEM, The New Statesman, Best British Poetry 2012 and Poetry Wales. John is also UK & Ireland Editor for Arc Publications.

The Good Lie
Four Sudanese children are orphaned after their village is massacred in the Second Sudanese Civil War. Consequently, they make an arduous and dangerous trek through the plains, enduring hardship, death and sacrifice all the way until they reach safety in a refugee camp in Ethiopia. Years later, these youths are among 3,600 selected for resettlement in America, only to have the one girl among them sent to Boston, while the three boys must to make a new life in Kansas City. Together, these young men must adjust to an alien culture even as the emotional baggage of their past haunts them. However, these newcomers, and their new friends like employment councellor Carrie Davis, strive to understand each other in this new home, as they make peace with their histories in a challenge that will change all their lives.
The 6-person swing, soul and blues band, JEROMES and the acoustic duo INTO THE BLUE are holding a concert for Nepal from 8pm on Friday, 19th June at the Winning Post pub, Bishopthorpe Road YO23 8NZ
It is to raise funds for a project to rebuild 3 schools in the Solukumbo area of the Everest region. Chris Bartram, who plays trumpet in the band, knows the area well, from having visited it with friends, Kelsang and Susie Sherpa-Baer, who run The Walking and Climbing Company, based near Beverley. Many of their porters come from villages in the Solukumbo area, which have been utterly devastated.
100% of funds will go directly to the project.
Please come, if you can, and it would be much appreciated if you could publicise the concert as widely as possible, and/or display the poster. Anyone who would have liked to have come, but is unable to do so, can donate by sending a cheque to:

with a note to say what the donation is for.

We’re pleased to announce that the ‘End Austerity Now’ national demonstration on Saturday 20 June will be marching from the Bank of England to Parliament Square.
End Austerity Now National Demonstration
Assemble: 12pm, Bank of England (Queen Victoria Street) – March to Parliament Square
The demonstration will assemble in the heart of the City of London, right on the doorstep of the people who created the crisis in the first place. In our hundreds of thousands we’ll then march to Parliament to demand the politicians represent the views of the majority and not their mates in the city.
Nearly 60,000 people have already pledged to be there, trade unions and campaigns are mobilising, transport is being organised and action is taking place up and down the country.

Day of Action 30 May
The People’s Assembly have called a national day of action on Saturday 30 May to build for the 20 June demonstration. Protests, rallies, stalls, leafleting, public meetings and direct action will be taking place across the country. If you can organise something where you live please get in touch.
The website will be updated with details as they come in: Click here
Urgent appeal
This demonstration is more important than ever. It needs to be massive. We urgently need to raise funds to make sure we can reach as many people as possible.
We have launched an urgent appeal to all our supporters to make a donation. The more money we raise, the more coaches we can put on, meetings we can organise, leaflets we can print, and more people we can put on the streets.
No amount is too big or too small! Click here to donate
Stand together to say ‘No!’
George Osborne has decided we need an ‘Emergency’ Budget, after the mess he inherited from the last chancellor – himself!
We’ve been promised a slash-and-burn attack on welfare, education, health and more besides, to make up for the tax cuts he announced before the election.
Rally in Parliament Street: 5.30pm, Wednesday July 8th.
As details slip out, its clear that those already at the bottom of society will be pushed further to the margins, or worse. We’ll be holding our rally outside the branches of 3 of Britain’s biggest banks: Halifax, Barclay’s and (over the road) Lloyd’s.
Alongside People’s Assembly groups across Britain, we want to demonstrate the strength of feeling against austerity in our community. 250,000 marches in London, but now we want to bring the spirit of the march home to York with an open microphone rally (please keep it under a minute!).
Join us on Wednesday – and invite everyone you know in York!
Yours,
Graham Martin
York People’s Assembly
P.S. We’ll be putting the final touches on this event, as well as planning events around treatment of York’s homeless and charges at York Art Gallery at our meeting on Monday, 7.30pm in Friends Meeting House, York. Come early for an informal introduction to the group at 7pm.

We’re planning on keeping the momentum going with a National Day of Action on 8 July. George Osborne is announcing his emergency budget, so we’re calling nation wide protests.
