Emergency Statement from York Stand up to Racism
After the horror of the Paris attacks we must not allow an Islamaphobic backlash that allows the racists to divide us. Refugees many of whom are fleeing from similar atrocities cannot be scapegoated and we have to make it clear that they are welcome here. In September the people of York sent a clear message of solidarity to refugees at one of the largest demonstrations the city has seen. This Saturday a facebook group has called a protest in York against refugees coming to Britain this has to be countered. We will meet at 1pm in St Helens Square. Please bring trade union banners, placards and as many people as possible to show these racists that York is a city that will not tolerate being divided.
Support the vigil called by York City of Sanctuary at 4.30 in Exhibition Square in memory of all those killed in atrocities across the world and oppose attacks on Syria
